Can you carry in Wyoming without a permit?
Wyoming allows permitless concealed carry from age 18 for people who may legally possess a handgun, including eligible visitors.
W.S. 6-8-104(a)(iv): a person without a permit may carry concealed if a resident of the United States who meets the permit criteria in 6-8-104(b)(ii)-(vi), (viii) and (ix) and may lawfully possess the firearm. HB0096 (2026, Enrolled Act 27) lowered (b)(ii) from 21 to 18 effective July 1, 2026, so permitless carry is 18+ — any US resident, not just Wyoming residents.
Is Wyoming an open carry state?
Yes. Wyoming allows open carry of a handgun without a permit for people who may legally possess one.
Wyoming has no license for open carry; its permit law covers only concealed carry. Government bodies may still ban open carry inside their own buildings and campuses.

Does Wyoming issue non-resident permits?
No. Wyoming does not issue carry permits to non-residents. Residents only — the DCI FAQ answers 'Can a non-resident obtain a concealed firearm permit in Wyoming?' with 'No.' Active-duty Wyoming military stationed out of state may still apply; a permit remains valid if the holder later moves away but cannot be renewed.
Do you have to tell police you are carrying in Wyoming?
No proactive duty to inform. Permit holders must carry the permit with valid ID whenever carrying concealed and display both upon request of any peace officer (W.S. 6-8-104(b)).
Carrying in a vehicle in Wyoming
Permitless carry extends to vehicles — any US resident who may lawfully possess a firearm may carry a loaded handgun concealed in a vehicle without a permit.

Two recent changes verified against official texts: (1) HB0096 (2026) lowered the CFP qualification age in W.S. 6-8-104(b)(ii) from 21 to 18 effective July 1, 2026 — DCI FAQ confirms residents 18+ may now obtain permits. (2) HB0172 (2025, Enrolled Act 24) repealed gun-free zones effective July 1, 2025: ALL lawful carriers (including permitless and recognized out-of-state permit holders) may now carry in governmental meetings, legislative meetings, non-sterile airport areas and public buildings, while K-12 schools, colleges/universities and alcohol-free school athletic events opened only to Wyoming-CFP holders (W.S. 6-8-105(b)-(c)); it is now a misdemeanor to deny entry to a lawful concealed carrier in the opened places. The DCI FAQ's prohibited-places list predates HB0172 for the repealed items (government meetings, legislature, athletic events, universities); the enrolled act controls.
