Whose permits Nebraska honors

Recognition under Neb. Rev. Stat. 69-2448 applies only while the holder is NOT a Nebraska resident; it imposes no issuing-state residency condition. The AG list recognizes AZ, AR, CA, ME, MO, MT, NV, OK, TN, TX and WY permits only if the holder is 21+. Since LB 77 (2023) the list's practical role is waiving the 180-day residency requirement for obtaining a Nebraska permit — carry itself is permitless for anyone 21+ (non-minor) and not prohibited. Can you carry in Nebraska without a permit?

Nebraska allows permitless concealed carry from age 21 for people who may legally possess a handgun, including eligible visitors.

Since Sept 2, 2023 (LB 77), any person other than a minor or a prohibited person may carry a concealed handgun anywhere in Nebraska with or without a permit (Neb. Rev. Stat. 28-1202.01); 'minor' means under 21, with exceptions for certain 18+ military/National Guard/ROTC members (28-1201(11)). Applies to residents and non-residents (NSP).

Is Nebraska an open carry state?

Yes. Nebraska allows open carry of a handgun without a permit for people who may legally possess one.

No Nebraska law prohibits openly carrying a firearm, and no permit is needed to carry one openly.

Renewals cost $50 and can be done online up to four months before expiry; let it lapse more than 30 business days and you must retrain and reapply as new.

Does Nebraska issue non-resident permits?

No. Nebraska does not issue carry permits to non-residents. Requires 180 days' Nebraska residency (Neb. Rev. Stat. 69-2433). US Armed Forces members on permanent duty station in Nebraska and their spouses count as residents; new residents holding a permit from a state Nebraska recognizes may apply without the 180-day wait.

Do you have to tell police you are carrying in Nebraska?

Nebraska imposes a duty to inform: you must tell an officer you are carrying. Neb. Rev. Stat. 28-1202.04 — anyone carrying a concealed handgun (with or without a permit) who is contacted by a peace officer or emergency services personnel must IMMEDIATELY inform them of the concealed handgun.
