Whose permits Indiana honors

Indiana recognizes valid concealed-carry permits from every US state and DC.

Official IN.gov FAQ quoting IC 35-47-2-21(b): licenses issued by other states or foreign countries 'will be recognized according to the terms thereof but only while the holders are not residents of Indiana.' No issuing-state residency condition, so non-resident permits are honored per their terms; permitless carry independently covers most visitors 18+.

Can you carry in Indiana without a permit?

Indiana allows permitless concealed carry from age 18 for people who may legally possess a handgun, including eligible visitors.

HEA 1296 (effective July 1, 2022) repealed the license requirement: adults 18+ who are not 'prohibited persons' under IC 35-47-2-1.5 may carry a handgun openly or concealed without a license. The optional LTCH remains available (for reciprocity travel and as a NICS alternative).

Is Indiana an open carry state?

Yes. Indiana allows open carry of a handgun without a permit from age 18 for people who may legally possess one.

Since July 1, 2022 anyone 18 or older who is not legally barred from having a handgun may carry openly or concealed without a permit.

Does Indiana issue non-resident permits?

Whether Indiana issues permits to non-residents could not be confirmed from an official source. Not verifiable on an official page during research: Indiana is commonly reported to issue an LTCH to non-residents with a regular place of business or employment in Indiana (IC 35-47-2-3), but www.in.gov and iga.in.gov were unreachable and the IN.gov FAQ articles read do not address it.

Do you have to tell police you are carrying in Indiana?
