Is a Montana Non-Resident Permit Valid in Kentucky?

No such permit issuedVerified 2026-08-08

This permit doesn't exist. Montana does not issue carry permits to non-residents (permit requires at least 6 months' Montana residency, US citizenship or lawful permanent residence, and Montana ID (MCA 45-8-321; MT DOJ). No non-resident permits are issued), so there is no "Montana non-resident permit" to carry in Kentucky or anywhere else.

Why

KSP: 'A person who is not a resident of Kentucky and who has a valid license issued by another state... may carry a concealed deadly weapon in Kentucky.' Recognition covers deadly weapons generally, not just handguns. New Kentucky residents' out-of-state licenses stay valid for 120 days if they file the KSP form within 60 days of moving.
